Becareful With Heavy Duty Forklift Batteries

Keeping your forklift trucks serviced and maintained according to the manufacturers service requirements is not only vital to the smooth operation of your business, it also paramount to protect the health of the people using them.

Here’s two stories which hopefully illustrate my point:

Fire officials said they believe an excess of carbon monoxide was emitted from a forklift truck. “We think it was probably the forklift truck, which may not have been properly tuned up”.

This type of call is common to Elk Grove Village’s industrial park, where the factory is located. The park is home to more than 3,000 industrial businesses. Firefighters cleared the building of hazardous material the building’s owner was instructed to have forklift truck checked for malfunctions.

The owner said the forklift truck was a rental that was being used while the company’s own vehicle was being repaired. He said when he was alerted that an employee working on the assembly line had fainted, he ordered an immediate evacuation of the back portion of the building, where the fumes were emitting.

Meanwhile, 18 employees of RediCut Foods in Rosemont were treated and released from hospital after being exposed to sulfuric acid. Rosemont fire officials said the poisonous fumes were caused when a truck overturned, emptying the heavy duty forklift battery acid into the company’s sewer system.
