My company invested in me
I was a very happy man. After working very hard in sales for a company who market color photo copiers, I had been given a major promotion. As the company executive in charge of sales told me “Son, we are taking a chance on you. We know that you have the potential, but you have a few rough edges that the company is going to invest a lot of money in polishing up. One of them is your presentation skills.” He knew what he was talking about as I knew that my presentation skills left a lot to be desired. I am not lacking in self confidence, however I never felt comfortable standing before an audience, and my skills between the PowerPoint presentations and the audience were a little problematic sometimes. I must say that once again I was impressed about my company and their attitude towards company training and the importance of professionalism. They sent me along to a special course of business communication training. The emphasis was on how to prepare and present PowerPoint presentations, the importance of body language and how to relate to the audience. I completed the course a lot wiser than when I went in, and am now pleased to report that my presentation skills are up there with the best.
