But Nancy was a little depressed. She didn't realize how much it cost to be retired. She had not planned for retirement. You see, Nancy worked at a job that provided no retirement plan (or health plan for that matter). Nancy, like most Americans, had figured Social Security would take care of her. A new study quoted shows that despite the uncertainty regarding the solvency of Social Security, 65% of respondents expect Social Security to be a primary source of income during retirement. Social Security is not a safety net.
